"What Home Means to Me" Poster Conest Winners

Since 2008, the "What Home Means to Me" Poster Contest has celebrated the art and words of children living in affordable housing, highlighting the importance of housing and community development work. 

The National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) "What Home Means to Me" poster contest is judged by housing and youth art leaders. It is the culmination of regional and state-level entries from across the U.S.

Every year, hundreds of children, ages 5-18, participate in the contest at the state and regional levels. 

This year, our Housing Authority had two winners and one honorable mention.

Jayanti Page - 1st Place / NAHRO High School Category

Amaria Robinson - 3rd Place / NAHRO Middle School Category 

Both Jayanti Page and Amaria Robinson worked diligently on their artwork. The colors, composition, emotion and techniques they used brought their finished artwork to life. The joy on their faces as they watched their thoughts come to life on paper rivaled no one else. 

Ayishani Jarrett - Honorable Mention (from HAD) - Elementary School

Ayishani Jarrett received an honorable mention from HAD for her participation in the poster contest. Here is a fun fact: Out of the 97 elementary school children residing under the Housing Authority of Darlington, she was the ONLY elementary school participant to represent her community in this statewide event. Her initiative, creativity and willingness to participate are worthy of special recognition.
