DCCAA Head Start

The Darlington County Community Action Agency's Head Start program is designed to improve the educational, emotional, social, and physical well-being of preschool children and their families. The health and nutrition aspects of the program have improved the prevention, detection, and treatment of children's medical, dental, and nutritional needs. A needs assessment is conducted to determine the health, educational, nutritional, social and needs of families.

Parents are directly involved in the program as volunteers, recipients of training, and as participants in program planning and policy making. Darlington County Community Action Agency's Head Start program has established many successful collaborative partnerships with various community organizations and agencies. These collaborative partnerships have helped make existing services in the community more readily available to children and their families.

The program provides services to families with children ages 3 and 4 years old within Darlington County which includes Darlington, Hartsville, Lamar, Oates community, and Society Hill. The program operates three (3) centers totaling 16 classrooms. The three centers are MG Burno Head Start Center in Darlington and Butler and St. Joseph Head Start Centers in Hartsville. All three (3) centers are endorsed by the South Carolina ABC Voucher program and are licensed by the South Carolina Department of Social Services.
